Laurell at Wired Monk

I pretty much just love, love, love live music. In my perfect world, I think I'd go to an acoustic show every week. On Friday night, my family went out to Wired Monk in Kitsilano to see Laurell play. I photographed Laurell in the summer, and since then have seen her play one another time at Wired Monk.
But this time was different! It's actually a really random story, but I photographed Laurell on a Monday, and then two days later, Brandon met her after a church service in downtown Vancouver. A bunch of the musicians from my church were leading worship downtown, and Laurell was talking to the band afterward, saying she was looking for musicians to accompany her at some of her gigs! Brandon sort of half-recognized her (he pretty much half looks at anything on my blog: "oh yeah, nice." Hah!) and they talked about how random it was that just two days before I had met her. Anyway, Brandon played lead guitar with Laurell Friday night at Wired Monk and it was so neat to see him doing his thing. He has such a great ear for music, and my Mom and I were just blown away that he basically memorized all Laurell's songs in one practice; two hours before the show.
While I was listening, I was wishing I had brought my camera to snag a few photos to have something to accompany this blog. Aha! My dad had his blackberry and it was as simple as snapping a few photos and emailing back home to myself. I love technology.
That would be him in his sweet scarf; it was really hot up there, he probably didn't need it. But...y'know. Fashion calls.
Thanks for the great show Laurell! If you are interested in hearing Laurell play she'll be at the Media Club Vancouver on October 16th; and you can also check out my brother there! :)

Hi! I found your site through Show It Sites. Look great. Did you design and do the "layout" yourself? Did you have someone do it for you? Also, you blog look great! How? Who? I am a photographer in Kansas trying to get my web identity going! Thanks! ek_jensen@yahoo.com

So cool to see Brandon up there doing his thin! Would love to hear Laurel (and Brandon) some time. Can't go to the one on 16th since I'll be in Saskatchewan but maybe the next time. Ly
