alan & emmy | august 2 wedding
Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 11:29 PM
During my time interning with Sarah at the Barlow house, I had the opportunity to second-shoot with her on the August 2nd wedding of Alan and Emmy, an absolutely beautiful couple! They were married at Willowcreek Church in Barrington, IL and the reception was held at the amazing Apple Orchard Emmy's parents have owned for the last twenty years.
Loved Emmy's bouquet: she had her initials E and H in little crystals admist the flowers!
I was mostly hanging out with the guys before the ceremony and Sarah was covering Emmy and her girls. Here's a shot of Alan and his men looking very suave.
Emmy's dress was so incredible and wait until you see the lace bolero she wore it with.
Emmy and her father, walking down the aisle to meet Alan:
I fully enjoyed Emmy and Alan's beautiful ceremony. The pastor gave a very powerful message on the choice and the decision to love one another. Emmy and Alan declared "they will" love each other and commit to one another, not that "they do" because "I Do" is for the present, "I will" indicts the future. Such a good message!
I very much enjoyed watching Sarah during the bridal party portraits time. She has such a great, fun style! It's really great to get opportunities to work alongside various photographers; everybody does something just a little different. I love it. We had some AMAZING skies in Chicago that day. Wow.
This is SO fun. I think this was the awkward moment when Sarah told them to just 'make out in the middle' and they were a little shy...
Watching around the beautiful property.
Hello, beautiful couple!
She has a fantastic laugh.
I told you!
Mmmm, such a favourite.
Details, details, details. This wedding was stunning. Sarah and I kept saying the whole evening, "This is pretty much my perfect wedding. Right here."--so in the end we decided we'll just save some money and get married on the same day, at the same venue. Yeah, good plan, hey?
Introduced for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. Alan
Their first dance was very cute and classic.
Every detail was so perfectly coordinated: including this classically simple cake.
I just love the idea of a sweetheart table: a table for two. It's so personal and intimate and really...the day is pretty much just about the bride and groom right? The bridal party can get out of the spotlight for the evening. :)
Sarah and I were looking at this light out of the windows inside the venue as the sun was going down and we knew we had to take Emmy and Alan outside for a few portraits before the night was over. Isn't the sunset stunning?
Mmm. So warm.
Some fun with some sparklers while we were waiting for the Hay Rides to start.
The whole wedding was full of so much love and life and fun. I loved that the real "program" of the reception was over by about 8 o'clock and the guests were free to fellowship and enjoy the company of other guests and to visit with the bride and groom. There were even hay rides that us photographers definitely took advantage of. The tractor drove two trailers all around the property, right up into the beautiful apple orchards. At dusk, the light and the sky was gorgeous; what a fun activity after the reception! The reception also had a free espresso bar (hello!!) and a photo booth (I have to admit we went in twice...pictures will come soon).
I don't think I have ever had this much fun at a wedding. I also don't think that I will ever shoot a wedding by myself again! What a difference it makes to bring somebody along that you know and can laugh with while working. Sarah, my fellow intern Vicky and I were laughing the whole day. We were there for 10 hours of coverage, but after our working hours ended at 9:30PM, we stayed until 11PM! We actually got a little crazy as well and fully enjoyed dancing to some music that I never want to listen to again (rap? hip hop? R&B?) and singing a pretty rad Karaoke rendition of "The Time of your Life" by Green Day. Oh my goodness it was fun. If any Vancouver photographers are reading this right now, email if you are fun and would like some consistent second-shooting gigs! :) Because I was just second-shooting, I don't have a slideshow to post of the day, but you can check one out on Sarah's blog.
I cannot believe everything is over and I'm typing this back in my Vancouver office! This week has gone by incredibly fast. Sarah and her sister Natalie are already making plans to come visit Vancouver in December and I'm coming back out to Chicago next May! Meeting new friends so far away is really a bummer; sometimes I wish I had a private jet and a bottomless bank account so I could visit for a random weekend every now and then. But that's just a dream. Happy late Wednesday night, or early Thursday morning.
