an unexpected gift

To use a quote from Finding Forrester, there really isn't much that can beat "An unexpected gift at an unexpected time." If I receive a handwritten card or note or anything cute in the mail, I just get so excited and thankful. It's something about another person sitting down, taking time out of their day to do something for someone else. It's so selfless and whenever I am blessed like I was last week, it reminds me stop and think beyond myself and to give my own unexpected gifts.
Last March when I visited Arizona for Spring Break vacation, I met up with three photographers in the area one day for a quick lunch. Rachel Priddy was one of those photographers and we've stayed in touch since then through quick facebook notes and a couple of emails. She asked for my address a month ago saying she had something to send me. Right away, I was so curious! However six weeks went by and nothing had come yet...so I kind of forgot about it.
But after I left for San Francisco on Friday, my mom let me know via email that a really cute package had arrived. I knew it must be from Rachel right away! That night in San Fran I got on Melissa's computer and Skyped to my parents back home. My mom "virtually" walked me through my package; opening the bow, the box, showing the cookies: it was so funny. The cookies are created by a company called Flour Pot Cookies -- their website looks so cute! Brides, if you are looking for really cute favors for your guests, look no further than this website.
Rachel knows me too well; I remember talking about the two pairs of shoes I had bought the day before our photographer lunch at DSW Shoes in the Spring. She took notice! :) There was six individually wrapped cookies in this box, one of which I have already inhaled--it was veryyyyy good. Oh, and incase you are wondering, the ribbon isn't edible. Not that I tried to take a bite out of it, or thought it might be or anything.
She attached an adorable note on the front that said:
"Jamie, (well actually she put Jaime but she spelled it wrong...I love you anyway Rachel!)
I had this all picked out and wanted to send
for your graduation - BUT they don't ship to BC!
So it took a detour to AZ and I hope
they still make you smile!
Love Rachel"
In answer to Rachel, yes, they made me smile! I can't believe how thoughtful you are, and I wanted to share with all my blogreaders how wonderful she is. Much appreciated girl.
