Melanie, Serge & Kennedy | Family
Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 10:05 AM
I have known Melanie and her family for at least ten years now. We attended the same church up until about three years ago and I grew up in Sunday school with her two younger sisters. Mel comes from a family of six kids, and I remember lots of after-church Sunday brunches with everyone. Now she's married to Serge and they have Kennedy, their two-year-old daughter who looks exactly like her mom! Kennedy is FULL of life, that's for sure. She will talk your ear off about everything and makes the funniest faces. If you ask her to smile, she'll say "Cheese!" and scrunch her face up real big. If you watch the slideshow I'm sure you'll see the same face on 1/2 of the photos.
Melanie and Serge had picked out some great spots for us to photograph in Abbotsford where they live, including Clayburn Village: this cute little historic spot I didn't know existed! After we finished up there, we drove to the water and got a few shots along the beach as the sun was setting. Thanks for a fun evening you guys!
Just stopping to smell the flowers!
Love this one; one of my favourites. Isn't the Fresh Flowers sign cute? Apparently just the owners of the home run it. There is always flowers out front, with a little sign that says "Be Honest" and a bucket where you pay for them!
I love the light just before the sun sets. Gorgeous.
These are called 1, 2, 3 Whees! They look like fun. I wish two giants could grab my hands and let me try sometime.

Ok, folks. Settle in: there's a funny story about this next shot. It was in front of this shed, just near the side of the road, so I got the family to sit in front. We're just shooting away, and I'm really liking the light and everything and this older man walks by with his little chiwahwah. Here was our ensuing conversation.
[Chiwahwah Man]: Oh, is this a...photography thing?
[Jamie Delaine]: *polite laugh* Uh, yep! *more giggles*
[Chiwahwah Man]: Oh.
[Jamie Delaine]: *Silence* (Wishing he would leave and let me keep shooting!)
[Chiwahwah Man]: I used to teach photography a few years ago.
[Jamie Delaine]: Oh, really? That's awesome. *more laughs* Yeah, I really love it. It's great. *giggle*
[Chiwahwah Man]: Do you want me to give you a few tips?
[Jamie Delaine]: Um, no, I think I'm okay, thanks!
At that point I just stared into my camera and started to take photos again, hoping he'd just move! And then very slowly, he started to walk down the road with his tiny little dog. A few minutes later, I was thinking, "Why didn't I say yes?" Seriously: I am so curious as to what the "tips" he was offering were. Was he going to give me a lesson on formal groupings? Oh sheesh. Anyway, hope that makes you laugh! Mel and I laughed about that for the next ten minutes.

These are simply lovely! Love the lighting it is gorgeous!
Hi Jamie. Love every shot, and the light was so wonderful. About that man who wanted to offer his advice, I say that you should pay that area a visit again and if you see him, take him up on his offer. My Dad was a professional photographer and passed away 20+ years ago. I WISH he was still around to offer me some tips. Have a wonderful weekend!
Too funny about chihuahua man. He mustove thought you were a photography student out for a little practice. Unfortunately you're going to get that kind of thing for awhile :). But seriously, who would walk up to a stranger with a camera and ask them if they want tips??
