the boxing glove story.

It all started when my Mom and I attended Women of Faith for the first time, back in 2003. We saw some amazing skits by dramatist Nicole Johnson, and went to the merchandise table to purchase her DVD set. One of her most famous skits (I'm trying to find it online but I can't!) is about a woman's battle with Breast Cancer. I have the DVDs and it's such an amazing ten minute monologue: one woman in the boxing ring, trying to fight cancer all on her own and its just not working without God. It's very powerful. We purchased the DVDs and it came with a set of miniature boxing gloves. Since 2003, they've been hanging in my mom's car around her mirror.
One day my Mom was out and about, and a guy spotted the gloves in her rear view mirror and tossed her a keychain--"to complete the set." Turns out he owns a kickboxing studio and he has a bunch of keychains as a promotional tool. :)
Long ago I stole the boxing glove collection from my mom. I just love it! I love the Women of Faith conferences and have attended each year for four years (I think?). The gloves are a reminder to me of God's strength when we don't have any! Also a more humorous reminder of my mom teaching me to drive a few years ago...all the sudden braking and turning I did caused those gloves to fall off every now and again, that's for sure. But we can ignore that part of the story.
So next time somebody asks me, "What's with the boxing gloves?" I'll reply, "Read the blog!"
